Atypical Learners Toolkit

The atypical learners toolkit is a learning resource for teachers and support staff in schools and students, parents and carers who want to increase their understanding of learning differences and require strategies to aid study.

  • All staff working with students who demonstrate atypical learning profiles, whether they are designated additional support staff or are teachers in curriculum areas.
  • Teachers and support staff who need more information on these differences.
  • Mainstream schools to help them include all students.
  • Learning Support teachers to use as an interactive document with individuals and other interested parties.

It also supports diversity initiatives, acknowledging that the concept of diversity requires a whole-school initiative, not just in the Special Needs Department. Diversity is an important issue for all members of staff across departments, as well as in administration, for support staff, etc. It is also for students who want to find out more about these conditions:

  • Those who do not realise that their difficulties in learning are related to thinking differences and need to develop strategies to assist them.
  • Those who think they may have a specific difficulty and want to discover more and need to experiment with helpful strategies.
  • Those who have had an assessment and need to develop strategies to help them with their studies.

The atypical learners toolkit is packaged in the form of an off the shelf binder which you can add information to.

An electronic version is also included in the kit.
